Amazon: College schoolmate works for AWS and say that they have discounts when using Amazon’s services, not sure if via their Amazon Credit Card or something.

  1. My husband works for Nissan: Discounts on nissan cars (can refer people too) and some hotels

  2. Prime seats at baseball games. I’m talking about the rooms plus good seats down with the peons. It was great while it lasted.

  3. Along with typical Welbox perks, my company operates a number of lowkey hotels and guest houses around the country which employees and family can spend a few days to “refresh” for very little money. As nice as it is, the better travel perk is through the union, though, where we can use XIV members-only hotels which are extremely luxurious and not a bad price if you go with a group of friends.

  4. I’ve got a whole book and special website of Japanese and international resorts we get major discounts at. But I had something similar at my previous job as well.

    I’ve got discount insurance/phone/etc. packages.

  5. One of my last companies, aside from the usual perk, they have us a monthly allowance of 10,000¥ for buying videogames

  6. Husband works for Rizap and we get half off on supplements and protein, discount on their gym memberships and chocoZAP for free lol

  7. Had a mate work for an airlines company, he could assign 4 people to get 80% off flights and be put in business class. If you dress nicely they’ll let you fly first class if it’s open. I flew from uk to japan and back so many times til he replaced me with his cousin. I flew first class only once and business class around 7-8 times. Tickets were around £180 return (32,000yen).

  8. I work for a very large company that has a lot of brand deals for events and sponsorships and such, so I get a lot of free merchandise that otherwise would cost quite a lot. Most recently got free clothing from The North Face ready for winter.

  9. Wife gets really cheap daycare and parking because it’s subsidized heavily for employees

  10. Amazon employees have discount codes for the retail site. What applies would vary by region and I’m not sure about Japan, but the functionality is there. Other Amazon services would usually come down to using alternative registration / portals with your internal ID. And there are also discounts with affiliates from an internal portal. A credit card would be nice, but a bit too rosy

  11. My previous employer: latest gadgets and some DSLR cameras. Now, it’s just a miniscule discount at some ok-ish hotel through JTB lol.

  12. A friend works for SIE(Sony). He got PS5 on the day it was launched. Also gets all new free games every month. PlayStation goodies every once in a while. Discounts on all Sony products(Headphones/cameras/speakers/Bravia tv). Free movie tickets for movies by Sony pictures sometimes(Spider-Man recently). Passes for Baseball, Football volleyball games, FIFA world cup, Olympics, etc. Discounted tickets for music concerts. And god knows what more!!!

  13. My wife gets a load of free fish from her fishing loving boss.

I get the heartbeat of a hummingbird and hair loss.

  14. When I worked for a city I got to go to a stable and hangout with sumo wrestlers and eat chanko nabe with them.

  15. The ability to be paid in USD/CAD by clients and also getting my shinkansen expenses comped.

Years ago when I worked at a JHS, the principal would bring ice cream bars in for teachers’ birthdays and every Friday during the summer.

Semi-related: When I lived in Toyota, the car company directly subsidized so many of the town’s amenities for residents: tons of free parking, a huge free gym/public hall, all sorts of festivals.

  16. Worked at Nike and got shoes pretty cheap. Then ikea where I got a whopping 15% off furniture 🙄 and unlimited meatballs and mashed potatoes in the staff cafeteria (if we paid 250¥)😂.
My wife is a marketing manager at a sports brand so she brings apparel and shoe samples home for free. Her perks are much better than mine lol.

  17. I used to work for a very known sports brand and a lot of gyms were super cheap to join, hotel discounts, travel discounts, free stuff from the brand or heavily discounted (I would never buy full price again), free tickets to concerts, festivals. All kind of sports meet ups (hiking, skiing, kickboxing, yoga, football), invites to parties and events and more. But so happy I left that company. Health is your greatest wealth, how true!

  18. Silicon Valley gaishikei:

    * 23,000 yen a month allowance on “wellness” items. Wellness is anything to do with health/metal well-being including cosmetics/bathing products, onsen trips, theatre tickets, Apple Watch, camping gear, etc.
    * 12,000 yen per month allowance for upkeep of home office and furnishings
    * Allowance for every nomikai whether in person or online. No rules on limit but no eyebrows raised if kept under 10,000 yen.
    * 55,000 yen allowance per year for keitai upgrade/cellular plan
    * Office is in a major 商業施設 and employees of companies in the building get 10-25% off items depending on the retailer.
    * Free food and bar and games in the office
    * 20 vacation days, 7 summer holidays, 12 mental health days per year, 2 menstrual paid leaves per month for women.
    * The best perk is the ability to work from pretty much anywhere as long as you “sign in” on Slack and announce you’ve started your day, and even then they’re pretty lenient with that as long as your team knows you’re around. You can even work vacationing overseas as long as you’re able to attend online meetings scheduled with whichever team at their local time.

  19. Friend’s company pays a fancy hotel stay for every employee twice an year (as in 400,000 yen a night rooms) and she always invites me to stay with her (no, I’m not a gigolo).

My work…… Well, I got a free shirt once. It was kind of bad quality though.

  20. Work from the house. Can get busy sometimes with my boss prior to an afternoon nap before resuming work. Can screen potential clients and refuse if needed.
