Blue => Gold Driver’s license procedure.

So I just renewed my Driver’s License last month. Postcard had me downgraded as blue but with a 5 year expiry date and renewal possible at the police station rather than the driving center. Instead of 30mins, I got the 1 hour movie session of poorly acted accidents mixed in with some brutal dashcam footage. Checked with the instructor after class and he said I would be gold again after 5 years of a clean record, which in my case would be next year. My next renewal isn’t for 5 years though. So…what’s the procedure for getting the gold upgrade when you hit the 5 year mark? Will they simply replace your card with a new one if you request it or does it need to be a “oh look at that, I seem to have lost my license” situation?

  1. You just need to have no tickets for a 5 year period. Consequently, it is the people who never drive that get gold the easiest.

  2. As far as I’m aware it’s not 5 years from the accident, it’s five years on your blue license. So you essentially start counting from your last renewal. Sucks but them’s the rules.
