Itinerary Logistics Check

Hello lovely Japan Travel helpers.

I’m rescheduling a 50th birthday trip that was postponed by COVID and heading to Japan for the first time for about a month in November.

The only portion of my trip that is already confirmed is the Mount Koya/Kumano Kodo self-guided walking tour portion, so I could stay longer or shorter than this plan if I want. I am buying my plane tickets with miles and discovered I can do two one-ways, but right now, I’m assuming I’ll be flying in and out of Osaka.

Can you tell me if this pathway makes logistical sense?

Day 1 Arrive in Osaka in the evening /sleep in Osaka

Day 2 Day in Osaka/sleep in Osaka

Day 3 Travel to Kinosaki/ sleep in Kinosaki

Day 4 Travel Kinosaki to Amanohashidate to Kyoto/ sleep in Kyoto

Day 5-9 Explore Kyoto with a day trip to Nara/ Sleep in Kyoto

Day 6-8 Mount Koya/ Sleep in Mount Koya

Day 9-15 Kumano Kodo/ Sleep along Kumano Kodo (last night in Kyoto)

Day 16-18 Fukuoka for Sumo Championship (thinking I’d fly from Osaka? thoughts?)/ Sleep in Fukuoka

Day 19-25 Zen retreat in Oita/sleep in Oita

Day 26-28 Naoshima/Sleep in Naoshima

Day 29- Osaka? to fly home.

\*edited for typos

Any other thoughts are welcome. Thank you so much.

  1. This bit is a bit confusing as the days overlap, but you would only need 1 night at Koya.
