Looking for a resource to learn 軽音楽 (i.e. guitar, rock music) related terms

I am a guitarist and dawned upon the fact that there aren’t many obvious resources for learning the related Japanese vocabulary when I wanted to know the word for “(to) jam” in Japanese and couldn’t find the translation. Let me know if you know of a good resource – thanks!

  1. From the opposite perspective, I used to read music related magazine. Japanese side of
that should be “rockin’on” and I’m sure there are a few more. Hopefully there’s the one that suits your type of music.

Although they likely are not going to be full of daily musical terms that are used by musicians in sessions, it should concert a lot of useful knowledge, such as the tone of language, way of words within the circle and common topics among the crowds.

If you’re looking for the real language used in sessions though, I think you have to rely on something that is not when media such as comics (Keion) or session footages. When I’m learning English, the actual terms and ways musicians count and express the rhythm in rehearsal sessions were not known to me until I joined the session, so I probably had the similar problem. (I’m talking about expression like one-E-&-A counting system, calling tempo “dragging” or “rushing” etc – they’re いち-と-に-と, 引きずる, 走る respectively in Japanese.) We may find those vocabularies in books that tries to teach musicianship to beginners, but I’m not sure if that’s what you’re really looking for.

  2. this is quite a specific example, but this post reminded me of something I came across recently – I saw there was a separate Japanese-subtitled upload of [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3H5tVnAH3k) – I’m sure that there are other similar videos as well (JP musician interviews etc. subtitled in English or vice versa), so they could be a relatively painless way to acquire some of the core vocabulary when it comes to techniques, guitar parts, etc.

(I can’t find the comment in question any more, but I will note that when I first looked at the comments of this video, I saw a comment indicating that some of the guitar vocabulary used in the subtitles is a bit outdated, so double check any new vocab you find)
