Retiring in Japan – accommodation and facilties

For those of us who have decided to be “lifers”, what are the options in terms of retirement accommodation and facilities that offer English language support? I’m just wondering whether my addled brain will be up to communicating its decrepit needs in Japanese when I’m 90.

Seriously though, any thoughts?

  1. I’ve got a house that’ll be paid off and kids who’ll take care of me. That’s my plan.

If you plan to retire here, I’d suggest becoming good at Japanese.

  2. what country are you from that you think you’ll live that long? My goal is no more than 75 and I’ll figure it out somehow to not pass that point. Travel to Switzerland is my first choice

  3. I don’t know man, if I need to placed in a home, like I can’t live in my own house with my wife with or without assistance from my kids or paid help, I feel like Japanese language ability will not really super high on the 99 problems list…

  4. Once the youngest is over 25 or so I plan to off myself. So long as the misses has gone first but yeah. I’ve seen various family members left as husks by various aliments and I’d rather go on my own terms. Am I fuck going to spend my last days in a care home.

  5. Japan will have let in enough English speaking care staff by then. And real time translation will be available..
And let’s be honest.. how many different ways are there to say “I’ve soiled myself again” are there..

  6. It is incredibly expensive to get into a Place you like.
