With Naito/SANADA seemingly a lock, and Ospreay/Omega III likely, I wonder if they run Okada/Danielson II at the Tokyo Dome… they’ve got a pretty strong story, with Okada looking to avenge his rare tap-out loss and Danielson looking for revenge for his broken arm.

  1. Probably, assuming Danielson heals in time. You can argue whether or not the tap out should have happened in the first place (nevermind the loss), but Danielson has wanted to wrestle in Japan for years now. While the G1 one isn’t looking likely (in his own words), losing to Okada in Japan on a grand stage is fitting. Be nice if he tapped out too.

Really I’m just hoping if they do run it back that Okada wins and there’s no unfortunate injury that just craters the match. As much as I enjoy FD I really hope it shakes off the curse status.

  2. If they had a excuse to get Danielson to Wrestle at the Tokyo Dome. It would be this. This is a big money match in a new japan ring I would be super excited for this for a Wk.

  3. I’d love to see it, but it sounds like Danielson’s break was worse than initially reported. I’d guess he’s not going to be up for it by then.

  4. Is Ospreay vs Kenny 3 that likely ? Maybe I missed something but from what I’ve seen of the interviews after the Forbidden Door match they talked about Ospreay beating Kenny like he did it on his own and not with all the Don Callis bullshit. The way they ignored it gave me the impression that a rematch is not happening anytime soon.

Personally I would hate seeing 2 big singles matches at WK having 2 AEW guys. Would be disappointing and a big waste of time imo. The NJPW roster is so stacked, a lot of people worked hard, use Ospreay and Okada to build your own guys. Especially with Okada, there are way more interesting and useful things to do with him than getting revenge for a match he should have won anyway. And seeing how that partnership is going, I also doubt Tony Khan would send Danielson and Kenny to lose on the same show.

  5. I know it doesnt happen in New Japan much, but id love if Danielson/Okada II was a submission match. Okada using the MoneyClip repeatedly but Danielson not tapping leading to Okada to use a new submission finisher he hasnt used prior to win.

  6. Okada tapping in this match made him look like a chump. Horrible decision but it’s what AEW does with guys they cannot poach

  7. big assumption they’ll even bother. with the way things are headed, it’ll be back to half-capacity with masks and no cheering, and foreigners locked out.

I hate everything about 2023 except for pro wrestling :/

  8. The most interesting thing for me is not since Tanahashi/Omega has Okada had a reason to challenge for something beyond the world title. Most wrestlers have stories about not being able to beat Okada (Ospreay, SANADA, Kiyomiya, etc) but Okada has never not been able to beat anyone, until now.

  9. They’ve been building towards yet holding off on an Okada Shota match all year I think it’s either that, Okada vs Mox or a tag with Tanahashi involved.

  10. I’d much rather see Okada vs. Shota, or maybe Tsuji.

They’ve been building/teasing this Okada vs. young boys story for a while, and I’d rather see something related to that than him against an outsider (they should use WK to build up their own/new names) getting his win back from a show that’s basically non-canon.

  11. If Danielson is healthy, this match is a guarantee and was/is clearly the plan. This is the equivalent of watching Infinity War and then wondering if Thanos will be defeated in the next movie. Like hmmm what’s gonna happen next??? Where could this be leading??? Obviously the Okada vs. Danielson rematch in the Tokyo Dome was always the endgame.

Ospreay vs. Omega 3 at WK is less likely. It’s an interpromotional feud, so each guy getting one win as part of the deal makes sense. Also, Ospreay is gone from NJPW next year, probably to AEW. So they will want to have him put over somebody on the way out the door for his last WK.

After he beat Okada in the G1, Ospreay cut a promo saying that NJPW doesn’t need three musketeers… it just needs one assassin. That could ultimately lead to Ospreay putting over Tsuji or Umino at Wrestle Kingdom. It’s NJPW so they won’t do it, but a 4-way elimination match for the US Title with Ospreay taking on all three reiwa musketeers would actually be kind of cool. A singles match is probably better, especially for the Tokyo Dome, but that 4-way could definitely be interesting. Elimination rules would allow for them to have a longer match, and still go down to a one and one at the end. Ospreay would eliminate two of the musketeers before finally being defeated in the end in dramatic fashion by the musketeer they want to put over. The US Title is functionally the IC Title, and would be a nice first achievement for Tsuji or Umino.

At this point, it feels like your best chance of seeing Omega/Ospreay 3 will be to tune into AEW next year… especially if they return to Wembley.

  12. Would be the most stacked Wrestle Kingdom in a minute if this is the card just based on those 3 matches

  13. Honestly that’s a pretty epic trio of matches for the Dome. I’m not enthralled with Naito/SANADA but I’m sure it’ll be good.

  14. That’s 2 top main events not to bothered about Naito/Sanada hopefully they get Bryan for this would be great.

  15. If Kaito wins the GHC title soon, look for him to prove himself by challenging Okada with the GHC title on the line.

  16. If, and this is a big IF, Edge is not signed to the WWE, they should try to do Okada vs Edge special attraction match.

  17. I don’t think Okada would have tapped to Danielson if this wasn’t the plan from day 1.

  18. They’re really running Ospreay/Omega again? I feel like there’s no way they can keep topping what they do. And what’s the point at this point?
