Smart light switches

Hi there, building my own house and had some difficulties with the architect finding smart light switches that works in Japan.

Anyone had luck installing Sonoff or Lutron? I think I might have to do it after the build
is completed as theres too many questions on warranty, safety etc. I know Lutron is being used in Japan as Ive seen their japanese website and they are used in Wework but omg what shitty quality and probably going to be very pricey compared to a sonoff unit that works with any light switch. Any other smart home products people are using as the availability seems very limited for the Japanese market?

  1. Smart home in Japan? Take it slow cowboy, the Japanese builders heads are about to explode trying to understand the concept of insulating homes and you are talking about stuff out of the sci-fi movies.

  2. If money is no problem, Panasonic has a range of [smart switches](https://www2.panasonic.biz/jp/densetsu/haisen/switch_concent/advance/lineup/link/) which are HEMS compatible, which means they are echonet lite compatible. If you are using Home Assistant as you hub, then using the [Echonet Lite custom component](https://github.com/scottyphillips/echonetlite_homeassistant) should allow you to integrate then. If they don’t work straight up, you should be able to open an issue and get them integrated.

But otherwise I think there are no real other smart switches/relays certified in Japan, which is why no electrician working on your house will install them. I’m planning on getting a class 2 electricians licence at some point and installing my own shelly in switch ones, which are wifi. Z-wave in Japan runs on some strange frequency so is basically non-existent here, and I’ve yet to see a zigbee one certified in Japan.
