Student Visa into Highly Skilled Professional (HSP) Transition: After a Waseda MBA

I’m planning to enter Waseda University for a 2-year MBA (student visa). I plan to then transition straight into a HSP (c) visa and start a business.

After completing my MBA, I would have 75 points (without including any points for income).

**However, I’m concerned about two HSP visa application requirements:**

1. Employment with a Japanese sponsoring company
2. Minimum ¥3M annual income

My solutions are to first establish a Godo Kaisha (GK) prior to my HSP visa application. Next, I could assign myself an annual income of ¥3M (as the CEO of the newly formed GK).

The most possible niggle then, is that my annual income would be based off the previous year (perhaps via a Japanese tax return). There wouldn’t be any as a full-time student.

Does anyone have insights or experience with this scenario?

  2. If your plan is to start a business, you need to go for the startup visa. Unless there’s a loophole I don’t know of, you’re not permitted to start a business on the student visa you’re currently on, so your plan doesn’t work.

HSP does require a Japanese employer to sponsor, and you can’t just make a business and sponsor yourself.

Edit: how the hell do you have 75 points with a 3M salary?

This is both not even ***remotely*** how it works and not even ***remotely*** likely to succeed.

Immigration is, contrary to public opinion, *not staffed by total idiots.* This is obviously an attempt to both skirt normal immigration procedures and in effect “buy yourself a visa”. Immigration will see this and reject your application so fast that new scientific papers on relativity and the speed of light will be written.

    In short: Ain’t gonna happen.

Like u/Elestriel said: If you’re planning to start a business the visa you need to be looking at is the Business Manager Visa. See above for the expected results if you attempt to “game the system”.

Also like u/Elestriel mentioned: How the hell are you figuring that you have 75 points? Something is *very* wrong with your math.

  4. Why not just use the start up business manager visa then? You want to actually start a company, right?
