Can you buy over the counter covid tests in Japan?

If so, just a drug store?

If not, what do you do to get tested on a Sunday?

After three safe years, I may have finally gotten it.

  1. Stop potentially spreading it around to others and get yourself to the nearest hospital emergency clinic.

  2. Yes, many pharmacies (proper pharmacies, not simply drug stores) sell antigen tests OTC. 3,000 yen for the COVID Ag/Influenza A&B tests. Here’s an [example](https://toamit.jp/products/dtb-cov-infab/) you could show the pharmacist if you’re not sure how to communicate it.

You can also order them online. You can also get “for research use only” antigen tests online for cheaper, but they aren’t as accurate.

  3. You used to be able to get the antigen tests at all sorts of places but I haven’t seen them in stores in a while. I tried to buy one a few weeks ago and couldn’t find any.

If you want to get tested on a Sunday and don’t know where to go, your local municipality probably has information on what places are open on Sunday or you can call #7119 which is a non-emergency number.

  4. In my drug store that locked to my clinic they have a test around 2-3k. Guess you need to get in and ask. But if you don’t feel emergency sick you can just wait for tomorrow and call any naika that accepts covid patients. If you feel really bad just call an ambulance.

  5. I ordered a few off Amazon some time ago when I also suspected I had caught it. They were pretty cheap, with next day delivery.

  6. I got one at home kit for around ¥1000 on amazon, but I also was able to book an appointment at a local clinic on sunday.

If you do get it, may you get well soon. Covid’s a bitch. I got it a couple weeks ago and only started feeling better recently, but still have the occasional cough.

  7. There are vending machines that sell them outside of clinics too. Not all clinics but it’s pretty common
