Hello guys,
I recently moved from Germany to Tokyo and am currently trying to find equivalents of food and water in mineral/vitamine content.
Regarding water, I’ve tried “Ion water” from “Pocari Sweat” and “Natural Mineral Water” from “Suntory”, but it seems to me that the mineral contents are lacking, at least when comparing the mg/l contents to mineral water from Germany.
What water bottle brands that have high mineral content can you recommend?
Thanks,
D.

sorry cant help in finding that water within precision tolerances of german mineral water, just wanted to mention this is the most german post ive ever seen.
I couldn’t compare the mineral content from German mineral water brands. But I think Evian is the most nearest brand for you europeans.
You could just drink the water everybody else drinks. They seem to being doing just fine.
Gerolsteiner, Evian, Rosbacher etc are very easy to find….
They sell the powder separately so I assume you can make your own concentrations? (I don’t know if that’s how it works)
My local supermarket actually sells mineral water by the 2 L and 4 L bottle. You buy a bottle and then refill it at the supermarket. “Ion” free water is free, and delicious “sports water” with magnesium and other minerals is pretty cheap at ¥240 for 4 L.
I think esp in the summer heat it’s not wrong to buy mineral supplements and add those into your water by yourself. I’m saying that because I don’t see any Japanese bottled water that is advertised to contain the variety of minerals we need. Other option perhaps go to the natural spring and fill from there.
Gerolsteiner is/was available in most combinis. with a decent mg count.
but, beware, in this heat, too much mineral content can draw water from you and too little glucose can mean your body wont absorb.
If you are asking because of micronutrients I recommend to look into and learn about algae/nori/natto options.
If you are asking for hydration, I recommend to stick to the proper sports drink options. (or famously milk (learnt that on r\hydrohomies) though it is considered blasphemy there ;P)
are you doing this from a health point of view? if so it would be easier to eat foodstuff that have those minerals. with just water you won’t get far
Fun fact: Suntory mineral water uses different sources for stock in Kanto versus Kansai.
Why do you need high minerals? The mineral content in all water in Japan is plenty to meet daily needs
‘Contrex’ is probably what you are looking for. Don’t see it so much in conbinis these days but it’s available by the case on Amazon Japan.
Newbies to Japan won’t be familiar with it, but it was very popular in the 90s and the 00s here for the very reasons the OP wants. I believe it’s a smaller French brand.
