Flowers/gifts for hospital patient?

My aunt (65+yo) is Japanese and recovering from surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. I’m trying to find suitable bouquets (in the US) and am getting confused.. There’s specific flowers to avoid, specific colors, etc. White or cold colors are a no, no potted plants, no red flowers, no crysanthemums, no lilies, etc. Are single color bouquets okay? What about orange or pinkish white flowers? If you have any advice I’d greatly appreciate it!

  1. She’s in the US? How long has she lived there…? I don’t think I’d worry too much. Nice colourful bunch of gerberas etc.

If she was in hospital here I would recommend a medium sized, nice quality basket of fruit.

  2. Assuming the hospital doesn’t have a no flowers rule, I recommend gerberas, carnations and roses!

And yes it’s kind of a “taboo” if you bring flowers that are white, blue, purple since Japan uses a lot of these colors for funerals. Red since it resembles blood.
Plants with roots are a big no no.. especially for someone who is recovering.

So vitamin colors like yellow, orange green and yea pinkish flowers are the way to go!
