Bringing gifts to America

Is there any limit to munchies and toys you can bring to America by plane? (Damn plane tickets are expensive!) Also how many electric cigarettes and how much alcohol can you bring? (Hard to believe alcohol and cigarettes are cheaper in Japan now!) Last, how much cash can you carry on you? (Holy shit the damn yen rate!)

  1. This is all regulated by American customs. Japan doesn’t restrict what you can take out.

  2. Sorry don’t know about the cigarettes and alcohol, but if you are carrying over $10,000 in any type of currency or instrument such as travelers checks, money order, it must be declared at US customs. However for Japanese customs, the limit to declare is set at ¥1 million.

Of course ¥1 million is less than $10,000, so you have to go with that as your maximum without having to declare it. You can carry as much cash as you want however, as long as it is declared.

  3. No limit for snacks other than what you can fit in 2 checked bags that are not more than 25kg each. Of course you can always pay for extra baggage if you need more space.
