I will be traveling to Japan soon and I am filling out a Japanese visa, on the form it states you need a name or address of hotel or person you intend to stay with. I was just going to book a hotel for the first few nights but I got invited to stay with a family friend. I would love to stay with them but am wondering if I need an invitation letter from them or can I just put there name, number, and address? I have a COE already and it’s a student visa application.

No invitation needed. That’s a tentative address anyway, nothing legally binding.
