Snow Reliability Near Tokyo

My wife and I will be in Tokyo mid-January and want to go somewhere for a few days with natural snow. The closest area seems to be Yuzawa.

Will there reliably (>90%) be natural snow on the ground? If not, is there anywhere we could go for reliable natural snow.

Please let me know if there is a better subreddit for this question.

  1. Middle of January will very likely have some snow in Yuzawa. In the worst case there will be snow on the mountains.

It is not anywhere near Tokyo however, but it is easy to get there on Shinkansen from Tokyo. Tokyo itself seldom has snowfalls and never has any snow staying more than a couple of days.

  2. Hakuba valley… depending on where you are in Tokyo, there is Bullet trains out of Ueno..and a dedicated shuttle from Nagano (city) station to many places within the Hakuba valley. Many hotels and resorts within Hakuba will have rentals on site..so you really need to carry minimal bags for your quick ski trip.

  3. depending on how long you are here, domestic flights are cheap and aomori and hokaido should have plenty of snow for you.
