Itinerary Check – Oct 2023 (Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Hiroshima)

Hello!

My husband and I will be visiting Japan from Oct 10 – Oct 22 for our honeymoon.

We’re very physically active, and walk upwards of 20 km daily when we’re traveling. We walk everywhere and love getting to know cities by “getting lost” strolling around. We love history, hiking, vegan food (although we’re not vegan), we’re very laidback, silent, introverted.

We have built a rough itinerary, we don’t want to be overwhelmed and leave space to wander around, but definitely want to prioritize the main sights and have some structure. We’ve been relying on Japan-Guide a lot.

Any input on our trip? Can anyone vouch for Japan Guide’s itineraries? Or is there something else you’d recommend?

Thanks in advance!

– Oct 10: Arrive at Narita, 3:10 PM. Explore hotel surroundings (Ginza).
– Oct 11: We plan to roughly follow Japan Guide’s Western Tokyo Full Day itinerary, which includes: Meiji Shrine, Takeshita Street, Omotesando, Shibuya, Shinjuku,
– Oct 12: We also plan to follow Japan Guide’s itinerary of Asakusa and Odaiba Full, which includes: Kaminarimon Gate, Nakamise Dori, Sensoji Temple, Sumida River boat ride, Hama Rikyu Garden, Aquacity & decks, Diver City.
– Oct 13: Day trip to Nikko. We also plan on roughly following the full day walk provided by Japan Guide there.
– Oct 14: Day trip to Kamakura, also planning to visit the highlights and roughly follow Japan Guide’s full day walk.
– Oct 15: Depart Tokyo in the morning, arrive to Hakone. Explore Hakone, we’ve thought of doing the Hakone Round Course (train, cablecar, ropeway, boat and bus). We have a private ryokan onsen, so will be relaxing there at night as well.
– Oct 16: Depart Hakone and arrive in Kyoto
– Oct 17: Planned to follow Japan Guide’s Eastern Kyoto Full Day – which includes: Ginkakuji, Philosopher’s Path, Nanzenji, Keage incline, Heian Shrine, Yasaka Shrine, Kodaiji Temple, Higashiyama Streets, Kiyomizudera,
– Oct 18: Arashiyama – planned to roughly follow Japan Guide’s full day itinerary.
– Oct 19: Day trip to Nara.
– Oct 20: Depart Kyoto in the morning, arrive to Hiroshima. Visit Itsukushima/Miyajima in the afternoon.
– Oct 21: Visit the War memorial in the morning. Perhaps stop at Himeiji on the way back to Tokyo in the afternoon? Or is that too much? Arrive at Tokyo late afternoon/night.
– Oct 22: depart Tokyo.

Thanks! 🙂
