ALT/JET National Survey Results Presentation

Hi there from the General Union.

Remember when we asked you to fill out our survey on ALT conditions? Well, we’ve been busy. Next **Monday, June 26th at 7:30PM**, the General Union is presenting the results of that survey to the public in an online symposium and we want you to come.

June 26th 7:30PM ([RSVP Here to get the link!](http://rsvp.generalunion.org/26JuneALT))
While the general poor state of the field will probably not surprise those of us working in schools, the specifics might shock you.

* Dispatch ALTs, the largest group of ALTs, are making ~1,000,000 less than their JET and Direct Hire peers despite working in the same classrooms for the same hours and the same qualifications.

* Dispatch ALTs are plagued by irregular wages with the majority of them receiving reduced salaries one or more times a year.

* Despite standardized wages and contracts, JETs remain dissatisfied with training and the arbitrary contract length limitations.

* 30% of JETs are unable to use their legally mandated break time.

* Direct Hire ALTs report the highest job satisfaction of employment types but many face the problem of unstable yearly contracts.

We’ve reaching out beyond the union, beyond ALTs, even beyond just the education field. We’ve got the attention of the media, politicians, and MEXT. Not only are they interested in what we’ve found, but they want to hear what we have to say. Part of the symposium is a Q+A where politicians can ask ALTs questions directly. If we want to make the strongest impact possible, we’re looking to have as many ALTs as possible to come and show that we’re serious. An besides, have’t you always been curious what questions the politicians will ask?

What we want you to do

* Come to the Symposium next week on **June 26th at 7:30PM**! ([RSVP here](http://rsvp.generalunion.org/26JuneALT))

* Share the event with ALTs ([English](https://a-new-deal-for-alts.carrd.co/)) and coworkers ([Japanese](https://generalunion.org/alt-jet%e5%85%a8%e5%9b%bd%e8%aa%bf%e6%9f%bb%e7%b5%90%e6%9e%9c%e7%99%ba%e5%a0%b1%e5%91%8a%e4%bc%9a%e8%ad%b0/?lang=ja))

  1. I’ll be impressed if I even hear this on the news. You say you’ve got a bunch of attention, but I’m going to need to see proof of this.

  2. The question is, will any of this actually change anything?

Will the board of education listen?

Otherwise this is all a waste of time.

  3. > We’ve got the attention of the media,…

I’ve looked for stories from the last 6 months in the Japanese language media but I’m not turning up much.

Can you suggest any recent news stories in Japanese that identify the labor issues? I’d like to share them with neighbors, colleagues, etc.
