How do you tell if beaches are closed in Okinawa?

So my husband and I are here in Okinawa for a few more days. We were originally supposed to go to Kerema Islands, but with the upcoming typhoon the ferry operator said we may get trapped on the island beyond when our return flight home leaves so we obviously decided to stay in Naha.

The forecasts originally called for rain all day today but there was nothing. The rain now keeps getting pushed back. So at this point, the typhoon may just blow by completely. We’ll see.

We went to Naminoue Beach today just to check it out. We didn’t plan on swimming, but you weren’t even allowed to dip your toes in the water without the lifeguard blowing the whistle. After some research I found the Namioue Beach website that says the beaches would be closed till noon (we went at 5, but maybe the website translated wrong).

If they decide to close the beaches I respect that, I just couldn’t find anything online saying any of the other beaches are closed. If tomorrow doesn’t end up with any rain, we were going to try to go to one of the beaches but don’t know how to check if they’re open. Considering it’s a $20, an hour plus bus ride, it would be nice to know if they’re open before we get there.

I’ve looked at the local websites for the individual beaches and saw nothing about closings for today or tomorrow. I don’t know if Namioue was the only beach that closed. Any help would be appreciated!

  1. I have never even heard of Naminoue Beach, but I googled the name, went to their website ([https://www.naminouebeach.jp/](https://www.naminouebeach.jp/)) and the first notice was literally saying that swimming is prohibited starting August 31st lol

  2. Naha City Tourist Information Center has a good rating on Google Maps. Comments about having English speakers.
