I’ve been applying for a few jobs recently and many companies ask for the applicant to write a cover letter. Is it wrong to use ChatGpt? Would the recruiter care if I did?
Whether they would care or not is irrelevant – whether they would *notice* is what matters. If they don’t notice, it doesn’t matter if they care.
If they do notice, there will probably be a problem, but if your cover letter is so obviously AI-generated that it’s noticeable, then you should have proofread it better. Use the AI to decrease the workload, but don’t just blindly hand in whatever it spits out lol

Damn dude how unqualified are you for these jobs that you’d rather have a bot apply on your behalf.
I don’t think you need to use ChatGPT to write a cover letter unless you’re mildly retarded.
Honestly, write your cover letter yourself. Then, go to ChatGPT and write something like:
Evaluate and suggest changes on this cover letter from the perspective of a recruiter.
You don’t need ChatGPT to do it for you (honestly it’s not there yet) but it CAN be an awesome tool to help you improve your writing.
I realize a lot of those things are drudge work that often has nothing to do with the job, but to be respectful to your future employer, I think it’s still better to write them yourself.
Also yes, anyone who actually reads it will probably be able to tell.
Be careful about relying on programs too much. If you get there and can’t write at a level close to what the program spits out, it’s gonna be painfully obvious, very quickly.
Lollllllllllllll
You should know how to write your own, that’s just a life skill
Chat GPT responses are pretty noticeable. I’d use it to write a draft, but revise it, then use it to modify it for different roles.
Yeah, it’s wrong, because the recruiters want to see what you wrote. Why bother even having cover letters at all if they’re not even by the applicant? Also, it shows you’re too lazy to even write a page, so probably not a hard worker.
The recruiters are too cheap to use ai detection, but the writing will sound weird and out of line with the rest of your communication with them and they might pick up on that.
Using it to generate a template you can then edit and make more you wouldn’t be a bad idea though.
Be processional: hire an administrator at a T1 school and have him writing the cover letter for you.
