1 Day at Gion Disctrict

I was wondering if this might be too much all in one day? I especially need help or maybe some advice for the event after lunch. Is going to Kodai-ji Temple, then Fushimi Inari and back to Hanamikoji too much? I also plan on returning my rental kimono or yukata the time they close at 6PM..

  1. That’s really packed.

I spent at least an hour at Kiyomizudera.

Fushimi Inari could easily be half a day. I wouldn’t go at night.

You don’t specify when you’re going, but in fall/winter it gets dark early.

My general rule of thumb for travel is no more than two events/locations per half day. So at most 2 in morning, 2 at night. Otherwise not only is it overwhelming, but you don’t get to enjoy anything because you’re rushing to keep on schedule and get to the next place.

  2. I think it’s doable, but I’d swap hanamikoji and fushimi inari.

Gonna counter the other posters and say Fushimi Inari at night is awesome. 0 people and it’s all really well lit. The lighting also gives the tori gates a really cool look with the shadows.

  3. I’ve done late night Fushimi Inari (10pm IIRC) and while it’s not the traditional experience that you see pictures of, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was one of the few ways we could make it work due to scheduling. It’s up to you what you want your Fushimi Inari Taisha experience to be.
