  1. it will vary shop from shop, even if it’s the same franchise. i think similarity is that they all pay minimum wage (unless it’s night time).

regarding McDonalds, they have shops run by the main company, and shops owned by private owners (franchise). shops run by the company tends to be more busy, but is cleaner and also have more friendly and helpful people

  2. First time was super cool, 3 people per shift, we get a free bento and dessert during lunch (sometimes even a drink) and at the end we get to take home a bunch of “can no longer sell” food

The second time it was shit, only 2 people per shift, no bento, no take home food, we were given a checklist of tasks to finish during shift, and the treatment over all from the owner was kinda shitty, both occasions were 7eleven

  3. Seven was great, good hours and decent pay, the owners were super nice, got free stuff. Worked there three years. Lawson was a nightmare, creep manager, 10 hours shift for low pay cause foreigner, I stopped after the first month cause I’m not a slave.

  4. Not me, but I know a younger (to me, anyway, he was 22) guy who was an American who worked at Taco Bell in Osaka as a trainer; he was a shift supervisor in the states and helped open the Taco Bell in Shinsaibashi.

He said the actual work was the same, procedure-wise. Different menus but the same tasks. Same hours, same positions, same relative salary.

He said the biggest difference was in the employees, that the Japanese were more serious and more willing to give focus and attention to their work, while in America the employees were more friendly and joking around.

  5. Famima early morning shift, super chill and free expired food. If you look non-asian, some customers get weird, either losing the ability to speak and understand Japanese or trying to do small talk.
