Anyone here been rejected for change of status and had success on reapplication?

I applied for change of status from student to work in late February. Over the months I called immigration and went in person many times only to be told it was still under review. I finally got a call from immigration last week (the same week my current status expires). I was rejected. The officer said I could reapply with more information. My employer is on board to help with any information they may need. My zairyu card was hole-punched and I got a 31 day designated activities stamp in my passport. My boss says that once I reapply they will give me another 2 month extension for processing (I’ve already gotten one 2 month extension while my application was under review). Honestly, I’m not feeling too confident about the situation. If anyone has any experience or advice with a case like this I’d appreciate it.

  1. Well, why were you rejected? Being put on departure status is a pretty definitive “no”. So what happened?

  2. It would probably largely depend on the reason why your application was denied?

If you had a one to one meeting, they would have told you the reason, and what would be necessary to get approved if you’re able to reapply.

In the meantime, you are aware that you are not allowed to work, until you have received the correct status of residence, right? So, you should be putting all the necessary documents together and submitting it asap… it can take anything between 2 to 6 weeks, or longer – it’s quite a bit of time to remain in limbo with no work, and no income.
