Youtube Subtitle’s (question)

How accurate are Japanese (auto-generated) Subtitle’s on YouTube?

  1. Generally not so good IMHO. For the language learner, I don’t know if it hurts more than it helps. The kanji errors are very distracting for me. For an example, you can check out the drama, “Mischievous Kiss” on youtube.

On normal TV in Japan, the subtitles are quite good. For live TV such as news, understandably there are some errors and omissions, and the timing is not perfect.

IME, video subtitles were useless as a beginner. There was a short window as an intermediate where subtitles helped me with verbal, kanji (and some grammar) comprehension, then they became irritating. For unfamiliar content, I still find subtitles useful.
