Japan Internship/Co-ops for Internationals

Hello all,

I have reached a point where I would really like any insights that can be given. I have always wanted to experience working in Japan so I applied to my university’s international co-op program for Japan, however I did not pass any of the interviews that I got there and it was absolutely devastating.

Right now, I am looking for other platforms for other opportunities, and I have found [kopra.org](https://kopra.org) to see some of the postings. I did find some that I would be interested in but I am doubting the credibility of them, so if anyone has had success with that website please let me know. Job postings by companies such as Bosch look very promising, I fulfill most of their requirements but they want a Japanese level of N2, and I would say I am only around N4, at most N3 if it’s only the listening. Would I even stand a chance if I apply? Any experiences on this would be appreciated.

Overall, I know that there are a lot of jobs that don’t offer wages but the experience, I cannot financially afford to do those. Even the jobs offered by my university program before were jobs that would allow me to break even with living costs, so that I may go for the experience. What can I do at this point? Thanks so much for your time if you have read until this point.

There’s a *very* substantial gap in communication ability between N4 and N2.

When they say they want N2, they generally mean the want you to be able to communicate relatively fluently in an all-Japanese office environment. If you can’t do that you’re going to have a hard time convincing someone to hire you.

  3. Kopra.org is a legit page, but has seen better days. Used to post internship there a couple of years ago.

  4. I found a 6-month internship at a smaller company at kopra. They pay me a stipend enough to live off (although barely) and helped me with a visa (and housing but I wanted to do that myself) I don’t know much more though as my first day at the company is this Monday.
