Hello guys, I’ve been investigating about recruitment companies that can help to find a job in Japan but to be honest I couldn’t find any sort of success rate data.
I looked on Envisoin, Hays Japan and Michael Page, which one do you all recommend? Or it’s better if I gather a little bit more of experience and try to apply in Japan dev – Tokyo dev directly with the companies?
For a little context and background about me:
I’m about to graduate as a Software Engineer and I have around 2.5 years as a full stack developer.

As a general rule, recruiters in Japan (or anywhere else for that matter) are not going to help you find a job – they make money by finding suitable candidates for a position. So they will help you if you’re a likely candidate for a position they’re currently working on, the good ones will even make sure to give you good feedback etc., but they will not actively help you look for something – if you want that you’d need to hire someone for it.

That doesn’t mean you can’t use them to your advantage. You already looked at some of the larger agencies. Submit your resume to their database, you could look at Randstad and Robert Walters too, Skillhouse is more specialized in IT staffing and might be a good starting point. There is a ton of smaller agencies here when you start looking. Just submit your resume to all of those that seem relevant. You’re a meal ticket to them so play all the horses.
If you haven’t already, do a search for “bilingual/English IT recruitment Japan”

Now do the same on LinkedIn. Link up with or follow anyone with a title of IT/tech/software recruiter/talent acquisition (except those from companies you have no interest in). Pay particular attention to the people posting stuff and those that react and comment – you’ll start to get a picture of the larger network here and people and companies that weren’t originally on your radar.
Finally, I’d recommend getting in touch with the startup community. Especially the Boot Camp companies here seem to be good connection points. Code Chrysalis often arrange meetups and TokyoDev seem to have an active community on Discord with interviews and such.
Don’t use Michael Page, recruiters there never respond to anything.
