guarentor question for renting apartment on short term visa

Hello everyone, I arrived 2 weeks ago in Japan. I’m currently on a 4 month business manager visa. I’m going to setup my company and I’ll look to extend my visa next week. I already want to look for an apartment, I was wondering if the fact that I currently have a 4 month visa would be much problem to get a guarantor company? Extending my business manager visa may still take up to a month. I’m currently living in a short term apartment but as I have a lot of free time this month I want to move as soon as possible rather than wait. Anyone here have suggestions what I should do? Should I just apply for an apartment anyway?

  1. A lot of real estate companies don’t want a “real” guarantor. They just go through an agency, which you pay for. What they want is an emergency contact—although they may still use “guarantor” as the word. Your lack of a long-term visa may hurt.

  2. I mean, if you’re going to apply for an apartment anyways you’ll be talking exactly to the person who can help more than anyone else here – your real estate agent. They’ll know exactly the answer to your question.
