  1. If you want to listen to what I’m listening to now, the audiobook of 村上春樹’s short story collection [パン屋再襲撃](https://www.audible.co.jp/pd/%E3%83%91%E3%83%B3%E5%B1%8B%E5%86%8D%E8%A5%B2%E6%92%83-%E3%82%AA%E3%83%BC%E3%83%87%E3%82%A3%E3%82%AA%E3%83%96%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF/B0C3LZ15FY) just dropped, and it contains 像の消滅 (“The Elephant Vanishes”), which was the first work of Japanese literature I ever read in the original language (over two decades ago…yikes), and was one of the stories that really drew me into Japanese lit. The title story is also excellent (all of them are, really).

As far as “serious” Japanese literature goes, Murakami is pretty accessible. He writes about complex and abstract themes, but for the most part his language is very clear, clean, and concise.
