Does Japan High School evaluate the admission score by calculating the score for each subject or the total score?

I’m sorry if it’s a stupid question. We’re overwhelmed by the amount of information we need to digest.

My daughter is planning to go to Joshibi, but she lacks in certain subjects, so we’re thinking that she may be able to cover her weakness by focusing on what she’s good at and boost the total from there.

As written in the title, does anybody know the answer?

  1. It says in their documentation. Read the 入試要項.

For early admission at many high schools, perhaps either three or five subject GPAs need to meet a certain total. So being weak in one area might be less of an issue.

On 一般, it varies by school, but maybe each subject is weighted fairly close to each other subject, perhaps. Depends on the school, and you might never find out.

Note that it’s typically much much easier to bring a low score up 10% than it is to bring a high score up 10%. Giving up on a required weak subject is generally not advised because of this, and also because the effect on lifelong learning lessons and goals.

  2. You should focus on the total score, but three subjects, Japanese, Math, and English, are highly likely weighed on such an admission exam. I’m not familiar with the school you mentioned, but I recommend brushing up it if there’s any of them your daughter finds tough learning.

  3. Total score, but there’s also something called 足切り where if you score too low in any of the subjects you will be disqualified.
