Elusive eki stamps – do they actually exist??

I am in Tokyo now trying to find eki stamps, but I’ve been at a loss. Help!!

Shibuya station, I got instructions in Japanese from a helper but wandered and just couldn’t find it.
But that’s OK, I’ll research online and find exactly where they are.. next day:

Tsukijishijo, stamp should be near exit 3 and4, I don’t even see exit 4? No stamp or station helper found.

Toyosu bus station, it should be right by the ticket gate. Don’t see it. Ask one person who asks an intercom and the intercom lady asks me what is an eki stamp?

Anyone know of they’re not doing stamps anymore or if I’m just bad at finding them?? Aaa. Thanks!

  1. I did not always find them, but most of the time. Usually going around the different exits and you would find it. Sometimes it’s in the ticket office. Most of the time in Tokyo they are outside of the gate, so if you go by train, you have to get out of the station.

That is valid for JR, subway I never really found stamps unless it’s a stamp rally.

  2. Train companies will often have a stamp rally event during school holidays. According to the JR East website, they had a Crayon Shin-chan stamp rally from July 14 to August 31, so it’s over now. There might be other, more permanent stamps but that’s the information I found with a quick google search in Japanese.

  3. Once you’ve found one and know what to look for then it does help. But I missed so many I really wanted to get even when I had time to hunt around the stations. Much more difficult to find than I expected!

  4. I’ve found that usually they’re nearby or inside a JR Office (not necessarily the JR East Travel Service Center).

Edit: For Shibuya, I think the stamp was actually inside the JR Ticket Office on 1F and there’s a bonus stamp there as well.

  5. It’s a little tricky, you have to look near the ticketing machines and JR counters. The stands always look the same, so that helps.

On top of that, some bigger stations have 2 stamps, one small and one big. e.g. Akihabara has a small stamp near the electric town exit and a big one in the other side.

  6. Once we found 1-2 they were rather easy to spot afterwards. But Shibuya was definitely tougher, and I guess that goes for all bigger stations. But yea, they still exist.
