Can I replace a Japanese 3-prong Trapezoid Computer Power Cord that has a yellow grounding wire hanging off to the side of it with an American one instead?

I recently ordered a Japanese rice cooker that’s at AC100V 50-60Hz. I haven’t bought the step up/step down converter yet, but my issue is the cord came with a yellow grounding wire attached to it. I live in America, and my outlets don’t have that. I’m worried about it not functioning right without that grounding wire being hooked too. Can I buy another japanese 3-pong trapezoid cord that doesn’t have that wire attached to it and attach it to the rice cooker? I was thinking if I buy an American 3- pong trapezoid cord would I still need to buy the converter, if the appliance itself runs on 100V while cord is probably suitable for American voltage? I had no idea of the grounding wire when I ordered it. I bought this thinking I only needed to buy a converter later on. Whatever is the best thing to do in this situation because I bought this in hopes of using it daily. I just don’t want to accidentally ruin the rice cooker or burn my home down.

  1. Just wrap the metal contact up in electrical tape and leave it dangling. Don’t worry about the converter either. US power is close enough to Japanese power that the only issue you’ll have is the clock being wrong. It won’t impact the actual cooking of the rice.

  2. it’s usually fine to run without the earth wire. The only downside is that if the appliance malfunctions, the housing might become conductive and shock you
