(UPDATES: after recharge with US cards was broken over the weekend, the problem resolved itself on Monday and multiple people were able to successfully recharge PASMO again. However as of Tuesday morning, the problem has come back again multiple people have confirmed)
For the past few years, I’ve been charging my online iPhone PASMO with my US Chase credit card through Apple Pay. Suddenly today myself and my partner (same card registered on different phones) cannot successfully charge PASMO with that or other Chase credit cards (I have two different ones) and Apple Pay.
It’s not a general Apple Pay problem, because I successfully charged the PASMO with my Japanese credit card on Apple Pay.
It’s not my specific credit card problem, because I used the physical card itself at a couple of stores today no problem.
It’s not specifically my phone’s problem, because my partner’s phone has also lost its ability to charge PASMO using a US credit card.
And I think it’s not a problem specific to that one card on Apple Pay, because I have two different chase credit cards and neither of them work now with Apple Pay whereas they both used to.
If anyone has a Chase credit card registered to their Japanese Apple Pay and can test if they can successfully make a charge on the PASMO or Suica I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks

I’m having the same problem (can’t charge PASMO with my US iPhone via Apple Pay, always have been able to) except with a US Capital One card. Actually, with any US-Issued card, now that I think about it (I tried it with a chase card too). Card works, Apple Pay works elsewhere, just not with PASMO.
Really glad you posted this, actually. I was spending most of the afternoon trying to figure it out (without success).
i seen a post on twitter a week ago about someone complaining about it being harder and harder to log into their chase bank or even receive the 2fa sms. maybe related?
I had that problem. Seems to only work if I am charging less than 5,000.
I ran into a few errors trying to recharge my Suica using my US Chase Saphire Card on US Iphone 3 days ago. The problems seemed to have went away later in the evening.
I’m also having this issue. Nothing seems to fix it so I just switched to using Suica instead. I’m not sure if that’s an option for you but Suica doesn’t have issues with charging with a US card.

tried charging friday night. didn’t work. called chase fraud, they said everything is working.
tried saturday, and today. still not working. no attempted charge shows up on the apple pay so chase isn’t denying any transactions. it’s definitely pasmo.
I was getting this same error today with my Capital One card, but it just now worked! (2022/8/8 15:00 JST). Please try again and see if it’s still a problem. Must have just been a temporary outage.
