Work Advice Needed for a long term worker

Hello everyone

First time using Reddit

Living in Japan long term

Need some work/legal advice

Been working for a company for 6 years

Technically I am a sub-contractor

Yet treated like an employee

Did many hours overtime for a revenue based bonus

I was mislead about how much % increase in revenue was needed, basically had to increase yearly revenue by 140%

Don’t get any sick leave and the tough working/extra hours have lead to a decline in mental health

I was also informed I cannot work anywhere else in the same industry – again I am a contractor and my contract does not state I cannot

I changed roles recently in the company and now that we are disagreeing they are claiming there is a 3 month probation period on the new contract

If they let me go what would be my best move?

Find a new job in the same industry. That non-compete clause isn’t worth the paper it’s not written on!

  2. Depending on your contract, after 5 years you may essentially be a full-time employee.

Talk to a labour lawyer for details.

  3. Why could you not work in the same industry? Not in your contract. Perhaps there is some NDA shit, fair ‘nuff, but there is no never in the same industry clause.
