I applied for visa extension on 26th July and still have not heard from immigration, anybody here applied around then and received the card?
Also, I have a overseas trip planned at the end of October that will make me come back to Japan 1 day later than my visa grace period… I guess it means trouble at immigration if I still do not have my renewed zaryu card by then. Any suggestion on how to deal with that? I plan to call/visit immigration office on Thursday, but I did not get any reference number when I applied so it will be a tedious endeavour…

5 weeks is definitely longer than usual but maybe not unheard of. You don’t have a paper slip in your passport with the reference number?

I think this is more than enough. Your passport number/current zairyu card number should be fine to identify your renewal process.
Took me 8 weeks in Tokyo. Osaka may as well be backed up like in Tokyo.
