Got my Rakuten Card but name order different with residence card

For example my name on residence card “John Smith” but on the card “Smith John”.

Will I get trouble to use the card because of it ?

  1. Who’s going to check your credit card with your residence card? Also, last time this thing was going to happen to me I got a call from the card issuing center to confirm the name order before shipping the card out. If they didn’t call you then just… don’t care about it. It’s not an ID document…

  2. “My name in resident card “John Smith”

I’d be more worried about your resident card name order.

It’s should be Surname>first name (>followed by any middle names… if applicable)

So that means Japan records would have your surname as John and first name Smith (writing that out, it does still work as a normal name haha)

  3. Your resident card should be LastName FirstName. Your credit card should be FirstName LastName.

If it’s anything otherwise I would be worried.

  4. Shouldn’t be a problem. My Aeon card has my last name, first name initialized, a d middle name spelled out for some reason. I’ve been using it for over 15 years with no problems.

  5. i had issues as well with my name as in my culture we don’t have this “first name, last name” thing and the whole 4-5 word name in our passports are usually our WHOLE name.

as far as things goes, i just followed whatever order they put in my Yucho bank book and had no problem with my Amazon CC or anything since.

the bigger problem for me is the various forms of katakana my name has gone through.

  6. Possible. I once tried to get the Rakuten cc as well, but couldn’t receive it because it didn’t have my middle names on it like my residence card. After hours trying to explain that to a very rude guy at Rakuten customer service, I just gave up and took my business elsewhere.

  7. It doesn’t really matter what is printed on your credit card. I have three Japanese credit cards and each has my name printed in its own way, but I’ve never had a problem in 5+ years of almost daily usage. As long as it matches roughly, it should be fine.

  8. same is the case with my rakuten’s cc..never had any trouble…Even bank account that’s connected to this card has my middle name skipped altogether and it doesn’t match with either my residence card or rakuten card and yet it works.

  9. Name on your credit card is fine. Doesn’t matter if it doesn’t match your residence card.

My name on the cc is spelt out in katakana for some reason, so doesn’t match my english name (think maikeru for Michael). Never been an issue online or in shop
