Kamikochi Yari Hotaka loop

Hey all

I’m going to be in Japan for work in the first weekend of October and was interested in doing this loop. Unfortunately I only have two days so trying to do as much as I can in those two days.

I wanted to see what everyone thought about the feasibility of this. Plan would be:
First day: get first bus to Kamikochi, try go fast to to Mt Yarigatake and then sleep in the hut at Minami-dake
Second day: daikiretto first thing in morning (noting it does look hard but fun!) across the ridge to Mt Oku-Hotaka and down to Kamikochi via the Dakesawa trail, hopefully in time for the last bus out of Kamikochi

I think I’m relatively fit, run 10km+ most days and do a bit of trail running. Also done a fair bit of hiking in Australia and Europe, and enjoy a big day in the mountains.

Would be good to hear what people think of this idea – is it basically not feasible? Are there also any places where bailing may be an option? I see there is a trail down from near Mt Minami-dake. How does the hut system work as well? If I have a reservation but can’t make it to that specific hut, is it possible to walk in at another hut?

Obviously would very much be a good weather option only.

If the above is sheer lunacy, does anyone have any suggestions for a challenging overnight hike in the Kamikochi area?

Thanks everyone!
