I am trying to fill out the ArriveCan app, now that my flight is less than 72 hours away. On the ArriveCan app, it asks for the “Country of Original Departure” (Which would be Japan), and right under in detail it says, “This is the last country you stayed in prior to your flight in Canada” (which would be the USA).
My family and I will fly to Honolulu from Japan and spend the entire day there before our next flight on United Airlines, which goes from Honolulu -> San Francisco (3 hour layover) -> Vancouver YVR.
It seems like the 2 points of info on the app seem to contradict one another and I am unsure to put USA or Japan in the response box. Any help would be appreciated.

You’re getting off the plane in America, and spending the day there. Thus, the answer is “America.”
In general if you leave the transit area/leave the airport then you’re no longer in transit and country of origin for any additional flights will be from where you left the airport.
