Hello from Australia 👋
I had some questions regarding the used car market in Japan, as it is quite common to import vehicles from Japan to Australia for personal use.
However, I’d like to know from a business perspective if there is truly an abundance of used cars in good condition?
I am thinking of starting a business revolving around importing Japanese vehicles and feel that so many people (mainly in the U.S) import vehicles from Japan causing the supply for specific cars to be limited.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any personal contacts that live in Japan to ask, so I thought I’d ask here 😊
Any information in regards the used cars or even exporting help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes there is! I have a friend there that is an importer. DM and I’ll pass along info
Probably a good time to do it while the yen is dirt cheap
In terms of “truly an abundance of used cars in good condition” is more of depending on what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for the Sylvia S15’s/180X’s, they’ve mostly been turned in to drift missiles (IIRC, drift missiles are beater cars just set up for the purpose of practicing how to drift). But if you try to export some of Toyota’s older yet much more prestige cars… those are always in usually a pristine condition.
The import market is already flooded with people exporting cars. There’s so many foreigners living here now going to auctions it’s not funny. Most of the 90s and 2000s sports cars are gone. If you didn’t jump on the train 10 years ago then you’re too late. If you don’t know anything or anyone in Japan to help then forget it.
