Hi everyone. I’m writing a book where both protagonists are of Japanese ancestry: one who’s half Japanese, born and raised in England, and one who spent some of his childhood in Japan and whose parents are both Japanese.
I don’t want to overthink things, but I also don’t want to cause any harm with how I write these guys. My general thing with writing characters is that I’m not writing a black person or a white person, I’m just writing a *person.* Still, I want to know if there’s anything I could do by accident that would be a stereotype.
What are some things to AVOID writing for them? Or if there’s anything I should keep in mind I’ll take that, too
(Because I feel like I’ll be asked, they’re Japanese because that’s how I imagine them, not because they’re meant to be ‘exotic’ or anything – changing their race would just feel wrong to me)
