Recommendations for good quality but reasonably priced sushi maker kit?

I went to the Asian grocery store near me and had a nice chat with the woman who prepares the sushi there. She said I can buy salmon from them directly which is great news. I just gotta figure out what sushi kit to buy and what rice.

  1. I don’t think you really need a kit. The only item that i would highly recommend buying for rolls that you might not already have on hand is a [makisu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makisu) (the bamboo mat).

Otherwise you can easily use things you already have at home for preparing the rice. A big mixing bowl and a rubber spatula is more than enough to mix the rice with the seasonings.

  2. Short grain rice… “sushi rice” is sold at most grocery stores… wash the rice, cook it as normal… watch a video. Once cooked, I put rice wine vinegar, I believe? Can’t recall, it’s been a while.

If you wanna roll it “inside out” you’ll need saran wrap.

Seaweed wraps and a bamboo mat. You’re basically done. All those sushi kits, bazookas, etc are just a pain to work with. Skip the .

  3. Do you have amazon? I got a full kit for my neighbor with everything and more that would be needed to make sushi for $24.

Edit: happy to send you the link. I bought one because if I ala cart the items that are fun but not necessary it would be triple that. Some items were just stupid but it’s plenty to get you on your way and then some

  4. Honestly you just need to get the rolling mat. a sharp knife, fresh ingredients and a decent rice cooker, all you need
