Japan Spouse Visa: How long did it take to process?

For those who were already living in Japan, how long did it take for you to receive your Spouse Visa after submitting the application? When I submitted mine 6 weeks ago, the lady at immigrations said I should get a slip in the mail within a month. I tried calling, but they literally don’t answer their phone. Wondering if I need to take time off work to go or just be a little more patient lol. Thanks, everyone!

  1. Change of status of residency (work visa to spouse visa) took about 4 weeks.

Extension of period of stay (renew spouse visa) took literally under 2 weeks.

Each individual’s circumstances and mileage will vary.

  2. Took a little less than 3 weeks for my wife. I’ve heard that immigration is more busy lately though.

  3. Has generally taken me anywhere from 3-7 weeks. 3 was during the end of 2020 if I recall correctly though so that’s why it was so short. It’s completely normal for it to take up to 2-3 months though

  4. We’re in Nagoya.

    Change of status: 3 weeks
    Extension of stay: 2 weeks.
Those were during covid though and birders were closed/restricted.

This year’s extension took a little over 3 weeks, but it can take much longer depending on your immigration office. Give them a call if you’re concerned.

  5. Maybe when they went to your neighbours house to ask if you seemed to be married nobody was in. 😉

  6. I submitted mine online about 6 weeks ago still haven’t got it either. Tried calling too but always too busy. Guess they’re just taking a while at the moment.

  7. Renew visa 3-4 working days .
Also I guess depends on the area you applying,
I applied to a very local branch where you have to wait just 1 or 2 turns in line for them to serve you .
Once I apply they say 1-2 weeks , we got the mail within a week (including weekend)

  8. I don’t remember exactly how many days but it took a little bit more than a month for me.
