Itinerary check – 28 days in Oct/Nov – Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima

I will be traveling to Japan for the first time, and I will also be traveling solo for the first time. I’m 20 years old. The trip is 4 weeks. I’m interested in many things, like art and crafts, culture, history, food, anime, pop culture and music. I’m not very interested in nightlife, with the exception of concerts.

I’ve already booked all the accommodations.

I have bolded things I really want to do, and will choose whether I do the other things listed based on the weather and my mood and energy level. Anything in brackets are things I will skip if it’s already late or if I’m tired.

I would love some feedback on my itinerary and any recommendations, and I also have a few questions which I will ask after the itinerary.

Some questions:

1. Is there anything that seems inefficient/ that could be planned better?
2. Is there anything I should book in advance?
3. Where can I go before going to the hotel? I will be very tired after a long flight and would love recommendations for a quiet place to sit or walk either near Narita airport or Asakusa (near my hotel).
4. I would love to go to a concert during my trip. Are there any venues in Tokyo that mainly host punk, metal or visual kei concerts? Is it usually possible to buy tickets at the door?
5. Is it worth it to go to the popular temples in Kyoto despite the crowds? What would be good alternatives?
6. How long before my flight should I arrive at Narita airport? How long does security usually take?
7. How long before the bullet train leaves should I be at the station? Is it the same as regular trains where you can arrive a few minutes before the train leaves?
8. Can I buy bullet train tickets at any train station, or only the station where I take the train?
9. I read that you pay an extra fee for limited express trains, if I check in with an IC card do I pay this fee automatically, or do I need to buy an extra ticket?
