Break down summary of cross city travel:
Tokyo Sep 19 to 25
KUSATSU sept 25 – 26
Kyoto sept 26 to oct 1
Osaka oct 1 to 5
Tokyo 5 to 7
From my research:
Tokyo station to Naganohara Kusatsuguchi Station
2hr 40mins: 5900YEN
Naganohara Kusatsuguchi Station to Kyoto station
5hr: 17500YEN
Kyoto station to osaka
1400YEN
osaka to tokyo station
2h 23min 13800YEN
Total: 38600YEN
Then for local travel I will use Suica or Pasmo.
isn’t it more reasonable to get 4 point to point ticket instead of a 14 day pass which is 52,960 YEN, everyone I know got JR pass in the past, am I missing something?
Also any good website to use to figure out how to travel within the city? Or if someone dont mind teaching me how to take the transit for my trip

Have a look at [Jorudan](https://world.jorudan.co.jp/mln/en/?sub_lang=nosub) which is basic compared to the paid version.
Yes it is more reasonable to buy individual than to buy the pass if it is less expensive. The people you know might have used more long distance train, or just within a shorter amount of time and it would have justified the cost of a pass, or they just lost money.
Google Maps is usually more than enough to find transit. Sometimes, especially in more rural area, you do not have all the bus schedules or not the most up to date, but for major cities, it’s usually good enough.
It’s totally fine to get individual tickets. Not many people wanted to do research thoroughly and calculated the total cost. I also think by not buying a pass, which limited yourself to one transit company (there are so many in Japan, all metros/trains are not from the same company), will give you more liberty in choosing routes.
And echo the other comment. Google map is a great resource. It might feel overwhelming but just stick to the instructions you’ll be fine!
