Renew Canadian passport in Japan

Has anyone renewed their Canadian passport in Japan?

I went to multiple photo studios today but they can’t provide the bright white background.(it’s more like grayish white)

Where did you go to get your photos done? Thanks!

  1. Granted, I have not attempted to turn in my passport renewal yet (planning to tackle that in summer break), but when I used one of those little automated passport/resume photo booths, it came out a pretty bright white! If absolutely all else fails, you may want to contact the Canadian embassy in Tokyo – they’re bound to know of places.

  2. I went to a カメラのキタムラ (kamera no kitamura) and gave them the list of photo requirements in Japanese.

The website says that the photo must “have a plain white or light-coloured background”. So I think the grayish white one could work. I don’t think you need bright white.

You might want to reread the requirements on the website!

  3. I’m American, but I also really struggled with the photo. Not sure if it’s the same for Canada, but ours also has to be 2″ x 2″. I drove around to a shit ton of photo boths in the nearby city but couldn’t find one that had both a white background and offered photos large enough. I eventually ended up going to local photo studio in my small town and they were able to get me exactly what I needed (though it cost ¥2,000 rip)

I would say my background was eggshell? I’m surprised you’re having so many issues with professional photo studios since white is a pretty common color for photo backdrops

  4. I have!!!! Cause I lost my passport during my adventure lol. Like Ookikikat said Kamera Kitamura is the place to go. I printed them the whole explanations in Japanese and my background was light blue. It went perfectly fine, and I got my new passport.

  5. Yeah, I had mine done earlier this year. I went to Kitamura and told the photographer what I wanted. As long as there is a clear contrast between you and the background it’ll be fine.
