So far I’ve run into 2 scenarios:
The optician can’t make my prescription.
The optician has no problems with the prescription but they don’t offer CR39 lenses.
Also looking up a couple chain opticians online it looks like they don’t offer CR39 either.
CR39 is probably the most common eyeglass lens material in the world so I’m wondering if I’m coincidentally selecting the chain opticians that don’t offer CR39 or the chain opticians generally don’t offer it and would perhaps have success with independent opticians.

Is your prescription is complex or something? Why are you requesting specific materials instead of letting the place decide what’s needed based on your prescription?
I think they do CR39 at Eyevan, but it’s pretty expensive though, I don’t know how much you want to put in your glasses.
I bought one pair last year and they’re fantastic.
Generally speaking they do Poly here for most things unless its a bog standard script.
What special aspect of your script would require specifically a CR39 plastic lens? The optical properties are nearly identical between it and poly, and if there was something odd, it would be on the script.
Also, if you had the same experience with one shop in one particular area requiring you to always go back to CR39, probably isn’t lens material but lens manufacturer that you were dealing with instead. Distributors can take years to go through stock after purchase and tend to have a limited distribution range for basic lenses.
I have astigmatism, it’s hell buying contacts and glasses on Japan.
Shops can only get close to my prescription, but never perfect.
So I’m always left with glasses which make me nauseous, or are way too weak
OP your best bet would be to find an independent optician who does their finishing in-house. They would typically be able (and hopefully willing) to source a variety of materials compared the the chains.
CR39 is super cheap so it’s low margins and hard to profit from.
OP, have you looked at [Zenni Optical](https://www.zennioptical.com/glasses-lenses)? They offer the CR39 lens that you need, plus a lot more. As you as you have your prescription, you can have your glasses made and delivered to you for cheap. The downside is not being able to try the frame in person, but if that’s acceptable to you then I think it might be a lot less headache than trying to find a store here.
