Does comedy that has a format that leans to western style content exists in Japan, on any media (TV, YouTube, Ameba etc)?
I can understand the jokes, punchlines, tsukkomi and boke interactions and why they are supposed to be funny, but the delivery very rarely resonates with me. I’ve seen a plenty of one-man performances on TV, rising comedian shows that are judged by veteran タレント personalities. A huge portion of them are impressions and making faces.
Of course an exaggerated voice tone or expression every here and there adds, but I feel like the majority of Japanese comedians make their reactions the appetizer, the main dish and the desert while it doesn’t even matter what is the topic, content and context.
Are stand up-like comedians anywhere to be found in Japan?
