AU iPhone X to soon to be released iPhone from Apple Store

If I have an iPhone X I have on contract with AU… and want to get an unlocked iPhone from the Apple Store after they release the iPhone 15… is it as simple/straightforward as buying the new phone and taking out the SIM card from my old/current iPhone C and put into the the new iPhone?

Will I keep the same phone number? Keep paying as usual each month to AU like nothing has changed? Do I need to tell AU I put the sim sard in a new (unlocked phone) not from their store?

It seems simple to do but knowing Japan and contexts, I just want to check.

You just put the SIM card into the new phone, that’s all. Why does everyone on this sub make things to be more complicated than they are.

When you restore from backup, all your settings transfer.

  2. As long as you are not paying for old iPhone on installment from AU on contract, you should be able to switch to a new non-AU purchased iPhone by swapping the Sim, installing the cellular carrier profile, and transferring settings and data from old iPhone to new iPhone (generally very smooth as iPhone setup will prompt you).

  3. FWIW if you switch to to an MNVO instead of one of the major companies you’ll probably save money. Especially if you don’t generally do a lot of phone calling (just data). Buying a phone outright is a great time to switch, and you can keep your phone number!
