How to present in a casual style?

Hey there. I’m N2 (barely, passed with exactly 90 points) and am really unsure of how to conduct myself and speak when presenting in a more casual style.

I made video, where I present my research in Japanese: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmZcnhFycw8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmZcnhFycw8)

But I’m fairly unsure about how to go forward doing similar things. Is this too much? Is my speech becoming satire of what one would consider casual Japanese? I want to do more, so should I alter my vocab choice?

  1. I would suggest you watch a lot of Japanese YouTube (more than Western) to get the feel for what is natural. Casual is generally more polite than you think and I would stay away from Osaka-ben (assuming that’s what you went for) as it backfires too easily if your intonation, rhythm and mannerisms are off because it’s put on.

  2. Hmmm, I have a lot of problems telling WTF is going on in this video.

I would ask your girlfriend, Japanese friends and maybe even an Italki tutor about the script.

Do they think it is easy to follow? Do they think the “casual” Japanese you are using fits this type of youtube video?
