Gyms in Japan

Hi all! I’m in process of trying to work and live in Japan. I figured now would be good time to research gyms and how the fitness industry is there. Im an active 23f who recently started competing in strongman, I train4-5 times a week. Wanted to see what kind of gyms are there?do you have any reccomendations? What equipment have you seen, if have experience? What measurements are used on weights? Essentially can I still heavy lift?.Looking for gym for lifting, enough weights etc. It might seem silly to worry over this but just want to mentally prepare myself for potential decrease in training so can plan accordingly. This is the only aspect that makes me nervous which think is a good sign lol.
At moment i do not have set location as only in second round of interviews. If find out where i will update.

I go to anytime fitness, I was happy hearing that the have quite a lot of hammer strength machines, and quite some of life fitness, went yesterday for the first time, quite well done, but was sad to see that there wasn’t any deadlift place, and all the racks had the security bars pretty much fixed arround the waist, ended up doing deadlift in the guided machine, but wasn’t the same, I would say that was the only flaw, ignoring that it was all pretty good to do some heavy lifting
    They have a rule of 20 minutes per machine tho, something that will surely not be enough for you

  3. There are public gyms which are super cheap and have all your standard weight equipment (dumbells, bench press, squat racks, etc., didn’t see any kettle bells tho), but might get a bit crowded on weekends, and they close at 9pm which is kinda annoying sometimes.
    You should check with your potential employers as their insurance might give you reimbursements for gym membership at a private gym, which I’d recommend. I was a member of Anytime Fitness here, pretty standard experience, same kind of equipment as public just better service and quality.

    Some of my weight lifting and body builder friends go to specialized gyms in the city, so there’ll definitely be a community for you, and plenty of gyms for you to find the right one.

    Also the weights are generally measured in Kg I think.

  4. Local city gyms are the cheap route. Some have everything, some are sparse. Speaking Japanese will help you and allow you to “tour” a few. On the other end, there is Gold’s if you want to spend lots of cash and hang out with the bodybuilder/powerlifter/strongman types.

  5. go to golds or anytime. domestic brand gyms are often a hassle to use.

    some public gyms are good, some aren’t. depends where you live – worth checking out though.
