GOING TO JAPAN FOR A YEAR

Hi everyone,

I (M turning 23 tomorrow (wish me happy birthday in the comment or i will be mad)) plan on going to Japan alone for a year in early 2024 .

I’ve never travelled anywhere outside my country before (i’m frech (baguette croissant)) because my dad rather buy tv than travelling…

Anyway, i’ve been planning on going to japan from February/march 2024 to january 2025 and i need tips or people who lived a similar experience as the one i’m about to live to talk to so they can tell me what i should expect and what could surprise me outside what everybody repeats all the time.

I did a lot of research and i’m not going ignorantly but i know that i’m going to be lost at first anyways so talking to people or having some contacts of people that stayed a long time or that are still living in japan would be amazing !

I’m practicing my japanese but i’m at the beginning so i’m not even JLPR5 yet, but i’m targetting JLPR4 for when i’m leaving.

The plan ATM is to do the japan from the north to the south in the first 6/7 months and then choose where i want to stay for the rest of the trip, i found somes workaways in the differents places i want to go, the idea is Hokkaido –> Sendai –> Tokyo –> Nagoya —> Kyoto/osaka—> Hiroshima —>Fukuoka (The citys are examples just so you understand the idea of the pathing)

I will use Workaway, it’s gonna help me not going broke because i could be fed and have a place to stay (and even getting paid for some of them) in exchange of a bit of work for the family you are in plus it’s going to force me to practice my japanese so i think its win win.

The purpose of this travel is to get out of my comfort zone and living this experience to the fullest and the idea of being on the other side of the world alone with no one i know is so exciting, even if my families and friends are like you’re crazy its scary as fuck i, don’t think so, it’s gonna be an experience that’s gonna change me forever no matter the way it ends, maybe i’m gonna take a flight back 2 months after my arrival because i’m not as strong as i tought or not that fan of the country and maybe i’m gonna stay the full year and have an amazing experience but in both scenarios i’m in a hurry.

First time i post on reddit so i don’t really know what to expect with this post i don’t really know this place, hope i can talk with some of you and discuss about my plans and get some advices.

I apologize for my poor english but as i said earlier i’m French and english teacher in here really sucks.

Thanks for reading this guys and girls and hope you can help me on my journey.

Have a great day

  2. Lol. I remember being that excited. You’ll easily stay the full year. You’ll soon see it’s not long at all.

    So…What was your question OP?

(That’s ok if you don’t have one. Enjoy.)
