  1. I’ve often wondered about that, since I’ve not yet visited Japan and slept on futons. I’d assumed that the tatami floor provided some amount of cushion that made it not so hard on the body, but it would seem I am wrong. How do Japanese people do it? Are they just used to it or are their bodies somehow different in this way, I wonder

  2. I sleep on a futon thinner than the normal ones which I lay on hard tiled floor.
Now sleeping on a normal bed is uncomfortable.

  3. I think it depends very much on the futon, the floor, and your body. I prefer to sleep on a futon and don’t find it uncomfortable. Sometimes I also like to sleep on the bare floor though, so it’s a personal thing too.

  4. Then why didn’t you buy an inflatable bed instead or extra futons? Im sure your in-laws will understand.

  5. Just hit 2 weeks here myself with quite likely 2-3 more weeks to go… Definitely not getting used to it at all though like some other commenters.

  6. In one of the cupboards (probably those on the right) there will be spare futons. Double up your futon!
