I am doing an internship and study program through JapanInternships. I picked out my school this week. I wanted to use my boyfriend as my financial guarantor but they told me I have to be related to my guarantor. Ok, no big deal, my grandma can do it. So they told me I have to prove she is my grandmother by sending them mine and my mother’s birth certificate and since she got a divorce I have to send proof of a legal name change. I have never heard this?? I got another COE back in 2021 (couldn’t go because of pandemic) and I did not have to send them poof of a relationship at all. I’m thinking about pulling out of this program because this all sounds so ridiculous. Any advice? (Also I’m from the US if that helps clarify the situation).

Was the COE you got in 2021 through JapanInternships? Because that seems to be what they require. If it was, it’s possible they changed their rules. But if that’s what they’re asking for, that’s what they’re asking for. You could look for other programs that might not require it.
